UWBC Gets BUCS Points for the First Time

The BUCS (British University & College Sport) head race is an annual event attended by the top university rowing clubs in Britain and is therefore a significant day in the rowing calendar. The championship and intermediate races are set on the same 5km upstream stretch the as the Peterborough Head of the Nene, whilst the beginner race is set on a shorter 2.5km course.

UWBC arrived at Peterborough to be met with snowy and windy conditions. The weather had barely improved by the time the women’s 1st VIII had to boat, leaving behind the warm and cosy confines of the mini-bus into the arctic like conditions outside.
The men’s 1st VIII came in a record place of 7th beating much bigger University boat clubs such as Manchester and Nottingham and attaining BUCS points for the first time in the boat clubs history. The women’s 1st VIII had a very impressive row, finishing in a strong position of 11th beating a number of crews. Please scroll down to see crew lists.
